The story begins with Bob, the rat being caught by two of the queen's cats. As he is about to be eaten, Bob saves himself for the moment by mentioning fresh-baked cookies and telling a story about one of his family members. And so it goes, the cookies and the stories keep him alive and the reader will be able to relate each story to different fairy tales that have been told throughout time.

Bob, the rat, is very clever! He is about to be eaten but "saves his tail" by telling fantastic stories about his family members while using fairy tale stories. My students enjoyed hearing this book read to them and picking out the fairy tales that Bob wove into his own stories.

Those are good questions, Ethan. I think the stories are Bob's way of distracting the cats from eating him. I think the cookies are too, since everyone loves cookies!
